TNR is the practice of trapping feral cats for the purpose of getting them neutered and vaccinated, and then returning them to their colony. For cats that will be living out of doors full time or part time, it is wise to include the ear tip procedure at the time of their neuter surgery. A tipped left ear on a cat is a universal sign they are neutered. If a cat with a tipped left ear were ever to be trapped again, the person trapping would know they could immediately release the cat. In this, the cat is saved the further stress of being held and taken to a clinic only to learn they are already neutered.
